Regularly, 80 percent of our inbound email was spam. That crept up over time to exceed 90 percent. Email is hugely significant for an organization like The Salvation Army. The effects of spam on our work could be catastrophic as it would bring to a standstill the communication between the headquarters and our 800 centers in the UK. I like the idea of security as a service and allowing somebody else to deal with the problem rather than wasting our time dealing with it ourselves.
Our end users are fundamentally getting a better service, due to the time that we can turn around these requests for discovery of emails, due to the time constraints, and how quickly we can deliver to those requests. It has affected the reputation of the RT department as well. We’re delivering a much better service to our internal clients.

We quickly realized that the way forward was to work with a Microsoft partner in the UK that could offer us a full managed service – hosting all the data at a UK data center and providing 24/7 support to avoid extra workload for our in-house team.

We've been working with Mimecast for five years and the service has provided our administrators with absolute confidence that we can handle any email related issue from our users. Managing infrastructure and storage used to take up a lot of our time, as did e-Discovery requests, which are common due to users looking for old contracts and agreements. Our restore speeds have now dramatically improved - it used to take a minimum of two hours to restore from the previous system - Mimecast now does this in seconds. Mimecast's user-friendly administration console means the day-to-day management of the system is quick and easy.
Net-net, Mimecast cost the same as Postini. And we gained archiving, business continuity, and e-discovery features. We now have a solution that is much more robust, so we’re getting a great deal more at the same cost.
There are only two of us, and only so many hours in the day. Outsourcing email management – including anti-spam, anti-virus, archiving and continuity – has probably doubled our overall productivity. We rarely have to deal with email related issues now.

Capturing and storing internal, inbound and outgoing emails provides a comprehensive back-up and supports business continuity by allowing us to access our emails in the event of any issue arising with Microsoft Exchange.
