“We were ready to begin implementing Unified Talent™ Employee Records and then the pandemic hit.”
“We are doing a number of things to support our staff remotely. I created a course in Schoology and enrolled all teaching faculty in it; we are using that as a central location for resources such as tutorials for using online tools, advice from folks who have taught online, etc. Of course, we are relying heavily on email as well, and will be holding a number of meetings (departmental as well as full faculty) using Zoom this week. We are going to use Zoom for synchronous sessions and Schoology for assignments, resources, and any asynchronous work. In this new environment, plans change hour to hour. I’ve had to readjust the timeline of when I’m providing training, as well as the content of that training, several times already, and I’m sure it will keep happening. To my fellow educators, I’d say try not to fret about the fact that no one seems to know what’s going on, because no one does! Do not be hard on each other (and especially don’t be hard on yourself!) because the quality of the courses you and your school offer is not up to your usual standards, because it won’t be. We’re all learning how to do this. An online course is NOT the same as a face-to-face course. You can’t just convert the one into the other. You need to pare down to the most essential concepts. Use the rule of thumb, ‘Half the content and twice the time.’ Remember, this is a chance to provide a model for our students of lifelong learning, and (more importantly) how to learn from mistakes, instead of being ashamed of them. Above all, keep your sense of humor!”
“PowerSchool Unified Talent Perform is allowing us to have more accountability on a systematic level, so we can ensure that our on-the-ground managers are giving effective and meaningful feedback to our teachers."
"We use PowerSchool Registration for our annual student updates, applications for inter- and intra-district transfers, Katy Virtual Schools enrollment, Katy Summer Academic Term enrollment, and new student registration. Future use will include our Career and Technology center applications. Our district uses tags, which are alerts to better prepare the campus register for each student’s individual situation. This includes new students that register for Katy ISD and indicate their home language is one other than English, the system automatically flags the student and applies an alert to the student’s record. Therefore we can prepare and provide ELL testing prior to the student enrolling."
"These community support specialists are district heroes. Their dedication to students combined with their knowledge of the PowerSchool Parent Portal contributes to the overall success and student achievement in their schools."
"Our students have insanely busy parents. Many of them are already out the door to work before their kids wake up in the morning. Students are getting themselves ready, to the bus and to school without seeing their parents. This is why we make sure that all staff have [PowerSchool] Birthday Alerts; so no matter what kind of a morning a kid has, when they show up to school, staff are ready and waiting to wish them a happy birthday. You’d be surprised how big of an impact this has on the quality of a student’s day, and happy students are better learners."
"I have two sons with very different personalities and learning styles. They both use PowerSchool [student portal] in different ways to keep themselves accountable. One, the Type A personality, checks in daily to ensure he is receiving maximum available credit for assignments and the grades deserved and contacts his teachers if he sees anything worth following up about. My other son, the Type B personality, uses it like a daily planner because he would otherwise struggle staying organized. In both cases, they rely on PowerSchool as an accountability tool and do better in school because of it."
“It would be so much harder to keep things organized and get students fed without PowerSchool.”
“You get a lot of teachers and administrators that grumble, but when they see the ease of the software, where everything is made simpler for them, this light comes on.”
"I oversee everything that happens in PowerSchool at the school level. As the Assistant Principal, I’m in charge of the three B’s — books, butts, and buses. It saves me time. It saves me stress. I use it for discipline. I use it to ensure we protect students’ resources, like library books, from disappearing. It’s so helpful to have everything in one place. I can find out students’ addresses to ensure they are getting on the right bus so they get to and from school safely. It’s a great tool."
“As we continue to use eFinancePLUS, we are seeing the benefits in reduced costs and increased efficiencies from the all-in-one software.”
“Through the mobile app, PowerSchool has created an open line of communication for parents, teachers, and students."
"[PowerSchool Assessment] tracks data aligned with Virginia state standards. It allows us to personalize remediation after the 1st test so we are seeing 90% pass rates after the 2nd test. We use the [PowerSchool Assessment] data to see where they were strong and weak and track these details throughout their term to see where to target instruction and remediation."
"Also, we have standards-based grading. We use this beautiful graph in PowerSchool for Final Standard Grade where the kids are listed down the left and standards down the right — you can click on the standard and this graph pops up and you can drill down and see how the class is doing on every standard, so teachers can use their professional judgement about how to respond with instruction."
“Our strategic plan calls for engaging parents and the community in the education of our students. Prior to the transition to the PowerSchool eSchoolPlus SIS gradebook, parents had to go to multiple pages. It was disjointed and more difficult to navigate. Now, they get all their information from one place. Home Access Center enables our parents to have access to their student’s attendance, discipline record, grades, and schedule.”
