These ballots are returned in large envelopes we provide with an identifier on the outside. The ballot is in a small envelope within the large envelope. All envelopes remain sealed until the day of the election when the outside envelope is scanned for member validation, and the inside envelope is opened and the ballot scanned. We do this to ensure the integrity of our elections. While the election ballot is anonymous, we can first ensure that incoming ballots are coming from union members and we eliminate the possibility that illegal ballots are presented as real ballots.
