"We were originally looking for an alternative to the traditional KPI's. We saw there was a number of platforms that provide that type of functionality and we were quite keen to try Hi5, because it was a South Africa-based company and we're passionate about doing business with South African companies. "What I like most about Hi5? Well, I think just the actual 'vibe' in the office changed significantly... everyone jokes about Hi5 now, everyone talks about it. When it gets busy sometimes the interest fades, but as soon as someone has a bit of time to give recognition they tend to go onto the platform and give recognition. "Although we originally looked at it for the 360 reviews, the recognition is a big part of it. Employees like giving recognition as much as they like receiving recognition. "It's always beneficial to give that recognition, because you might do a day-to-day task and someone does something great for you and you'll say, 'Oh, I should do something for that person' and you overlook it. So, to have the functionality to actually do it there and then is really useful. "The benefits of using Hi5 in particular... I keep going back to the recognition, because it's something [that we didn't expect] - it was a value-add; we didn't look at the platform for that. But, I think we underestimated the value of having the facility to give recognition to everyone. "It's really been great for the employee morale and the team spirit in general."
"We found out about Hi5, we liked the concept and we thought it's a nice way to create a recognition platform. Everybody loves recognition and that was something that was lacking in our business. One of our biggest points in terms of our pulse survey was that recognition was lacking, so we decided to give Hi5 a shot! "What do I like about Hi5? Everything! I really enjoy Hi5, I think it's a good platform. It offers good recognition for staff; for everybody to see what we are doing. Especially in the HR space where support functions don't really get recognised much. It's good for us to recognise each other. "What I enjoy is that it builds morale - it makes it an exciting place to be and platform to be part of! [The staff] get to give recognition to each other on a platform where everybody can see, instead of just a by-the-way 'you did well.' "It gives an opportunity for us, especially in a big area (we're about 30 HR staff members and we operate in different areas - we've got recruitment, training, support & specialists for example). We're able to see what the other areas are doing and give recognition for hard work and acknowledgement from everyone else. "So, I think [the staff] enjoy that and they also enjoy being acknowledged, and the fact that somebody took note of something they did."
