"Everything in all the warehouses had to be accommodated in the new facility which goes live on 1 September. We started designing in February and finished in April. This project put a new meaning on the word Fast Track and gave us a respect for the way things can be achieved in Europe that would be impossible in South Africa. We designed as the project unfolded and was revamped, on the fly while travelling between sites throughout Europe using AllyCAD on a laptop."
"At the outset we were restricted by the heavy rock formations around the site and the excavations had to be performed using explosives within very close range to the building itself. The rock excavation involved a series of sub-processes including the drilling of bore holes for the explosives followed by the controlled blasting itself, secondary breaking and loading. The rock is removed in slices but its certainly not an easy job."
