  • “With PARCC and Common Core, they talk about interactive essays where you have pictures and multimedia. As [students] started working on their interactive essays, it seemed less like a Word doc and more like a web page. So we did individual WikiProjects and they each had their own space to put their pictures and writing.”

  • “We didn’t see a lot of gaps in learning, and with the movement being so frequent—with some of our learners going back and forth—it allows them to still have that consistency.”

  • “Our initial license is good for three years. And, once you complete your mentoring and you have successful evaluations, then you go onto a continuing license, which is a five-year license."

  • “I think the best part of using a preferred partner is that both PowerSchool and TimeClock Plus are dedicated to make the integration work. I’ve experienced other third-party vendors saying, ‘Oh, this will interface,’ and it’s unrealistic and it doesn’t. And, another reason to use products that interface well is because the expectations about what we have to track change all the time. So, we have to be ready.”

  • “Accuracy in accounting for people’s true on-the-clock time with the district is critical when you’re trying to determine if you have to enroll that person or not."

  • “PowerSchool hosts a support call every Tuesday morning where we hear a lot of information on Texas regulations and learn about things that are happening. It helps us gather information and hear from other districts on what they’re doing.”

  • “Our understanding now of what happens with our educators and what happens with our students over time is much more sophisticated than it was just a couple of years ago. So if you put the data out there in digestible formats and if you have a committed state board, a committed governor, and a committed legislature, then you start to make decisions based on that data that are in the best interest of students.”

  • "I think the ability for them to talk to each other about how they’ve worked through different scenarios and issues is an intangible benefit of operating from a single system. It’s not something anybody ever thinks about on the front end of an implementation. But I think if you ask them today, they would probably say it works much better than being on their own island.”

  • “The data coaches meet schools where they are in their trajectory, help them understand what types of data they’re going to need to look at, take the PLCs through a cycle of inquiry, and set up structures and agendas to help them reflect on what data they have at their disposal."

  • “The PLCs allow mentors and novice educators to have a totally different conversation. We saw it go from more of a superficial conversation to these novice educators really getting great content support and data-rich conversations in their PLCs.”

  • “We found that 17 percent of highly qualified students weren’t going to any college. And, when we looked at low-income students who managed to do very well on the SAT, we saw 30 percent of them weren’t going to any college. So this year, we are working with the districts to ensure that they are tracking these students and encouraging them to apply to college, to complete the FASFA application for financial aid, and then hopefully to enroll in college.”

  • “Since 2004, Heartland has been using BusinessPLUS Position Budgeting for salary negotiations, forecasting, and budgeting. It’s an extremely flexible and powerful piece of software and will give you wonderful results.”

  • “Rebecca provided excellent training as we implemented the Position Budgeting module. We were fortunate to have her experience in the room, along with the PowerSchool consultant, Wes Durham, as we learned how to set up our system.“

  • “I absolutely recommend PowerSchool. PowerSchool has the easiest learning curve of any SIS package I’ve used because of the ability to have easy access to the backend of the database in a way you can’t mess up. You can ask any questions you want to, and you can customize it to do whatever you want it to do.”

  • “We are only one of 53 fully accredited divisions in the state. That’s out of 132. We’re very proud that even though we’re geographically small we’re very, very big in success. And we put children first. We had a lot of puzzle pieces that we were able to put together to become fully accredited, and PowerSchool Assessment was one of them.”
