“A lot of the curriculum development work is done within our professional learning communities. Now our curriculum is dynamic, which can help identify opportunities for improvement.”
"During class, if a student doesn't understand the lesson, they can ask PowerBuddy later at home, allowing them to learn at their own pace. PowerBuddy provides students with continuous support even when a teacher is not near."
“PowerSchool works well in Ontario. The company has demonstrated the ability to invest and enhance the product to the level a current SIS needs to be in this day and age. The enhancements to the system are much appreciated. Keep up the great work!”
“Schoology has been a useful tool for our school and as you can see, it’s easy to do.”
“My district is very much on the cutting edge and they see technology as the future of education. Teaching students online and learning to navigate Schoology is obviously a big part of that. We’re in a pioneering time for education.”
“The focus on digital citizenship will not go away after the pandemic, so we have to incorporate it into the way we all operate. It’s important to stay organized, know what’s out there, and have a plan for if—or when—something happens.”
“On behalf of the team at Kids Connection school, we want to send a HUGE thank you to you and the Schoology team for helping us implement Schoology in four days! We know how busy you were, and that implementation generally takes weeks not days, so your commitment to putting us on an accelerated implementation was greatly appreciated! We literally went from a Friday morning demo with Rashad to buying it in the afternoon with Amanda to being trained by Carrie and Karie on Tuesday. And Dirk worked day and night over the weekend and Monday to help us get the user data into the system! You are all amazing, and we are loving Schoology! Our staff of 50 teachers was terrified when we told them on Friday afternoon that they were going to be teaching online by Wednesday, and that training happens on Tuesday. Somehow everyone pulled together and put up an amazing online teaching site. Teachers have their students in class via video conferencing using wonderful content in their courses. The students are loving it, and we have so many hilarious and wonderful stories of videoconferencing with 2- to 11-year-olds! We have more to learn about Schoology and have more training hours to use, but all in all, it’s looking pretty good. Thank you for your professionalism, calm, and accommodations so that we could show our professionalism to families that we serve!”
“Schoology is a communication conduit for everybody at Palatine High School. That’s landing place number one. You go to a theme park and if you get separated from the kids, you designate a place where everyone meets up. So for us during the COVID-19 crisis, Schoology is like where the Ferris Wheel is—that’s where everyone meets up, that’s where everyone gets their stuff.”
“We are doing a number of things to support our staff remotely. I created a course in Schoology and enrolled all teaching faculty in it; we are using that as a central location for resources such as tutorials for using online tools, advice from folks who have taught online, etc. Of course, we are relying heavily on email as well, and will be holding a number of meetings (departmental as well as full faculty) using Zoom this week. We are going to use Zoom for synchronous sessions and Schoology for assignments, resources, and any asynchronous work. In this new environment, plans change hour to hour. I’ve had to readjust the timeline of when I’m providing training, as well as the content of that training, several times already, and I’m sure it will keep happening. To my fellow educators, I’d say try not to fret about the fact that no one seems to know what’s going on, because no one does! Do not be hard on each other (and especially don’t be hard on yourself!) because the quality of the courses you and your school offer is not up to your usual standards, because it won’t be. We’re all learning how to do this. An online course is NOT the same as a face-to-face course. You can’t just convert the one into the other. You need to pare down to the most essential concepts. Use the rule of thumb, ‘Half the content and twice the time.’ Remember, this is a chance to provide a model for our students of lifelong learning, and (more importantly) how to learn from mistakes, instead of being ashamed of them. Above all, keep your sense of humor!”
“Currently we are using the student information system, the learning management system, and the special education program. Each teacher has 12 students. They are all different levels. Everything from 4th grade to 12th grade and every subject area. We are using the LMS to provide mastery and personalized learning for our students so that they can learn the information that they need to learn at their level in time for what they need. Our goal is that our kids when they leave us, they either leave with a high school diploma, the GED, or they are at or above grade level. When they reenter their high school, we want them to be able to be at their level and not have to be retained a year or two and then drop out because they don’t want to do that. We are finding that our kids are very successful in our model of allowing them to move at their own pace. One of my students says they are ‘learning as fast as their brain can hold it’. It’s all about getting the information to them at a pace and a time that allows them to learn.”
"PowerSchool is used on a daily basis by both teachers and students of the Winfield City School system. Teachers use PowerSchool as a daily navigation and communication tool for their students. Additionally, they may find messages from their teachers, photos from the day before of an activity in which they participated, or order forms and announcements of what may be happening in and around the school."
“But then when COVID hit, the way Schoology was arranged was perfect.”
“Students can click on assignments and be taken exactly where they need to go.”
“We stay connected with our students using Schoology and Zoom. Because we use Schoology every single day, my kiddos have had almost no problems changing over to remote learning. One of my students sent me a message in Remind, saying that even though he didn’t like school very well, he really missed being in our classroom, but having Schoology helped him feel like he was at school, when he really wasn’t. I told him, that school is not the building, it’s the people.”
“We communicate with all staff via Schoology and Google hangouts. We have also installed a HELPline button in all Schoology courses that students can access while working from home."
