“We were ready to begin implementing Unified Talent™ Employee Records and then the pandemic hit.”
“We are doing a number of things to support our staff remotely. I created a course in Schoology and enrolled all teaching faculty in it; we are using that as a central location for resources such as tutorials for using online tools, advice from folks who have taught online, etc. Of course, we are relying heavily on email as well, and will be holding a number of meetings (departmental as well as full faculty) using Zoom this week. We are going to use Zoom for synchronous sessions and Schoology for assignments, resources, and any asynchronous work. In this new environment, plans change hour to hour. I’ve had to readjust the timeline of when I’m providing training, as well as the content of that training, several times already, and I’m sure it will keep happening. To my fellow educators, I’d say try not to fret about the fact that no one seems to know what’s going on, because no one does! Do not be hard on each other (and especially don’t be hard on yourself!) because the quality of the courses you and your school offer is not up to your usual standards, because it won’t be. We’re all learning how to do this. An online course is NOT the same as a face-to-face course. You can’t just convert the one into the other. You need to pare down to the most essential concepts. Use the rule of thumb, ‘Half the content and twice the time.’ Remember, this is a chance to provide a model for our students of lifelong learning, and (more importantly) how to learn from mistakes, instead of being ashamed of them. Above all, keep your sense of humor!”
“PowerSchool Unified Talent Perform is allowing us to have more accountability on a systematic level, so we can ensure that our on-the-ground managers are giving effective and meaningful feedback to our teachers."
"Having these integrated systems [Performance Matters Analytics] will ensure everyone is looking at the same data. With this information, we believe that teachers’ planning time and students’ learning time will be more focused and effective."
“Our district needed to send every student a report at the end of the year. Normally, we would print and mail them all. In a few hours, I used PowerSchool to burst an email each student’s report. The class I took last summer paid for itself in postage we saved!”
"It's very colorful. You can quickly see how the district is performing in key areas - if it's blue, we're in a good place. If it's red, we have some work to do. I like how user-friendly that is. It gives you a plethora of information."
"PowerSchool has proven themselves with strong support, excellent training, and expertise in implementation."
"PowerSchool University (PSU) far exceeded my expectations, and I came expecting it to be great. The combined professionalism and friendliness of every PSU staff member I encountered added to the positive experience. Anytime I asked a question I felt like whoever I asked was ready to go the second mile to make sure I received an answer, even right down to the last Open Lab!"
"The PowerSchool ecosystem audit was an amazing opportunity for our school district. The PowerSchool team took the time to meet with all stakeholders, listen to the various concerns, and assemble a comprehensive plan which met the needs of our district. Without a doubt, we would not have been able to move forward with our curriculum and assessment plan without PowerSchool’s assistance."
"Parents are a lot more informed and engaged, which has made our students take more responsibility for their grades. A lot of the pressure was taken off of the teachers because students in grades 7 and above can see their grades and thus take that pressure upon themselves. Their questions for teachers have shifted from ‘What is my grade today?’ to ‘How can I get my grade up?’ or ‘I am missing an assignment, how can I turn it in?’ Now they study more, turn in their assignments on time and can plan how to increase their grade by the end of the semester."
"The cost of hosting beats the cost of purchasing and maintaining hardware, as well as the time to manage and maintain software updates. Downtime has been almost none since hosting, and we are updated promptly when state reports are released. In addition, the peace of mind knowing our data is secured off site and is being backed up by the hosting team is worth the cost in itself."
“We call it the pajama onboarding process because they can do it at home, in their pajamas.”
“PowerSchool is a major system for us. It’s become completely central to what we do. It’s gone from being used for attendance and grading to being integrated into everything we do with student information.”
“Dry Creek is on the leading edge of teaching and learning. We provide innovative programs for our students. Every classroom in our district is a digital classroom. Students have access to technology devices both inside and outside the classroom.”
“We saw discrepancies all over the place. We had teachers all over the board with different curriculum, and it was difficult to keep up with that with limited reporting and a lack of a variety of assessment item types.”
