To derive actionable information from its marketing data, Etix needed a data warehouse and analytics solution. The solution could not require significant capital investment. In addition, migrating data from on-premises production systems to a cloud database needed to be timely and not require significant development resources.
With the introduction of the OnDeCC system, Bizzuka’s SaaS business experienced a period of rapid growth. As the number of customers and volume of managed applications and data grew, Bizzuka recognized a need to optimize and automate IT processes associated with Web application release cycles, content deployment, and customer site backups. After extensive testing, Bizzuka selected RepliWeb Deployment (R-1) as its new Web deployment and replication solution.
Historically, Active Interest relied on FTP to facilitate outbound file exchange. As AIM’s business evolved, their outbound transfer throughput increased to over 600 large media fi les per month. Transfers were managed via multiple FTP sites. File types consisted of highresolution graphic files and print-quality PDFs. The increased volume quickly exposed FTP’s key shortcomings; provisioning new users was difficult and time-consuming, the individual sites and subdirectories required ongoing manual clean up, and essential reporting features were lacking. External users also had difficulty with unwieldy FTP clients, creating a steady volume of helpdesk calls and support issues. These factors combined to place signifi cant strain on AIM’s IT staff. Aware of these challenges, AIM looked for a Managed File Transfer solution that would improve day to day operations, accelerate file transfer processes, and ultimately improve Business and IT productivity.

Given the volume of transactional data derived from its online auctions, DomainPower recognized that it needed a data warehouse solution to enable analysis of market trends related to its supply inventory and the value of advertising. One option was to purchase an on-premises data warehouse appliance such as Greenplum or Teradata. This approach, however, proved to cost more than budget allowed. Other options included using an open source data warehouse like MongoDB, or a cloud data warehouse like Amazon Redshift.

• Technical backbone of company is a mainframe, terminal based system that served the business well, but efficiently getting data in and out was the challenge – not having data accessible in real-time was hurting LaBarge competitively • Limited navigational capabilities – green screens were irritating - literally and figuratively • Reporting was cumbersome, time consuming and expensive • Limited analytical capabilities – could not sort data or manipulate it for analysis and reporting “Attunity was by far the leader in marketing and making me feel comfortable. Specifically, Attunity was the only company that understood the impact of the flex chip, which allows us to run on UNIX servers, and the implications of it to the pricing of the solution. Attunity’s relationship with Microsoft and their demonstrating a clear understanding of our environment gave me the confidence that they knew what they were doing. Through the entire implementation process, I always knew that they would be there to support us.”
M.Quintreau’s team is reaping benefits from the now-proven solution. “Attunity Connect gives us direct access to our mainframe data. At the same time, it enables us to take advantage of the power of our ETL development tools.” Plus, Attunity Connect is affecting Macíf’s bottom line. According to M. Quintreau, “We’ve been able to cut the time it takes to maintain the software -and to load the BI system - by 50%.
Reduces deployment time. RepliWeb products running on Windows Server 2008 R2 ensure that content—whether multimedia files, online gaming code, or financial data—is current and delivered consistently across the enterprise. And by using built-in administration tools, the company can reduce the time spent on file replication and other critical deployment tasks by up to 75 percent. “The Shared Configuration feature of IIS 7.5 helps us automate and streamline Web site maintenance,” Cohen says. “We can provision IIS configuration settings and application content across multiple servers in one deployment.”
Project Success: Enterprise MDM for Real-time BI and Reporting National Life Group selected Attunity Stream CDC software to deliver data in real-time across their heterogeneous systems, leveraging its log-based CDC technology to move incremental changes from Mainframe systems including VSAM and DB2, as well as SQL Server. In addition, the Attunity CDC Suite for SSIS data replication software enables fast configuration and deployment and eliminates the need for manual programming, providing tight integration with the Microsoft platform and tools. With the Attunity solution in place, making master data available in the SQL Server platform, National Life Group was able to complete their large-scale MDM project and extend comprehensive data in a single view to users requiring it for BI/ reporting and to agents needing it through Web applications.
To deliver and maintain a high and constantly growing number of reports, the Medical Center opted to use the ubiquitous Crystal Reports, an easy-to-use and popular reporting solution. Leveraging Attunity Connect and its standard-based ODBC connector to HP NonStop data, the Medical Center enabled their reports to access over a hundred Enscribe files and SQL/MP tables from the GE Healthcare system. Furthermore, using Attunity Federate, the hospital created virtual views federating data together from Enscribe and SQL/MP to improve data retrieval performance and provide a simplified data model to facilitate report design. Today, the Medical Center publishes hundreds of scheduled reports and enables ad-hoc reporting all enabled with Attunity’s data access technologies.
Manageability: Manual Confirmation and enhanced reporting capabilities allow the NetVision team full control over complex web publishing processes. Rollback capabilities raise the level of assurance allowing the un-doing of deficient content publishing.
Because Attunity Integration Suite (AIS) handles the Police Mutual Assurance Society’s (PMAS) most complex requirements for Adabas access, it is an ideal solution for new systems that either replace older, inefficient processes or deliver capabilities not previously available. PMAS is using AIS to integrate the OpenVMS Adabas database with both intranet and Windows-based applications. The systems enable users to view member data, maintain medical histories, generate and review reports on the company’s performance, transfer data from Adabas to a new finance system, and handle premium payment problems.
Colin James, business systems director at the Random House Group, commented: “A major challenge we faced when implementing the new customized solution was that we needed the front-end application to access data in RMS files within Vista. At the time we didn’t have the tools for that so we required a tool set to access the data and put it into XML which can then be transferred into the new application. We needed proven data integration technology that delivered a fast, cost effective solution allowing us to connect our legacy systems data with SEEVIEW.”
iN DEMAND Accelerates Data Transfer with Attunity CloudBeam “After evaluating various commercial media transfer acceleration software solutions and open source tools to deliver high volumes of larger-file video content from our on-premises locations to Amazon EC2, we selected Attunity. Attunity CloudBeam was easy to implement – and delivered throughput in excess of two gigabits per second. The ease of use and transfer throughput speeds far exceeded our expectations and experiences with alternative options. More importantly, Attunity enabled us to meet our project goals on time and on budget.”
SMART Modular Technologies’ business teams also needed the ability to run their own reports and analytics. The SAP BI tool created spreadsheet-like reports that were cumbersome to work with and didn’t allow users to drill down into more detail. Even after business teams got reports, they still had to manipulate the data further to get the information they really wanted. “Since pricing for memory changes from day to day, we must keep on top of the most up-
Further complicating matters was the fact that their BI application and existing database administration (DBA) tools did not provide the information needed to improve the system. Attempts to optimize queries involved a manual and time-intensive process that was prone to unreliable feedback from end users. Additionally, a dedicated resource was required to recreate and resolve the query.
The next step was to leverage customer data differently. “We have customer financial data, of course, but we also need to keep track of customer feedback and complaints, said Billy Lo, Head of Enterprise Architecture for Tangerine. “That includes every face- to-face and phone interaction with a customer, in addition to social media sentiment.” This requirement had Tangerine’s IT team looking at the data in their current data warehouse as well as the expected growth for their data over the next several years. It also had the team looking at the time it took to move their data so that their bank managers could analyze it while the data was fresh.
After deciding to move forward with an Amazon Redshift data warehouse, Veritix began exploring ways to replicate data from their on-premises databases to the new analytics warehouse. Initially, the team assumed that they would need to build custom tools or rely on an off-theshelf solution like Microsoft SSIS. They did an initial experiment which started with the team creating a backup. Then they moved it to the cloud, restored the backup to a staging database, and tried to move the staging database to Amazon Red shift. Veritix was disappointed to find that it took seven hours to transfer the data, plus an additional 14 hours to restore it to the staging database. This approach was so time consuming that it would only be possible to move information to Amazon Redshift once a day. In an ideal world, would receive real-time data updates. The manual solution was also costly. “Between the labor and the cost of licensing both Microsoft SSIS and the staging database, the manual approach was going to cost us at least $130,000,” said Rojas.
Platform to scale up capacity and use data replication software to move the data in real customer satisfaction and at the same time increase our report time with minimal impact on the source databases. AUTOonline ultimately chose to processing capacity by at least implement Attunity Oracle-CDC for SSIS software, which provided an affordable and 30%./
Daimler AG selected the RepliWeb Deployment platform for its content and code deployment. R-1 was the only solution that met all critical production and security requirements. R-1 continues to be an extremely flexible application that adapts to Daimler AG’s dynamic project environment.
Norandal – A Continuous Focus on Quality “We knew we had opportunities for continuous improvement in casting. With InFocus, we identified the root causes, enabling us to focus on the specific alloys and equipment combinations that were adversely affecting our casting production. We were able to take action and make adjustments in a much more timely matter.”
Peacocks selected and implemented Attunity Federate, a virtual data federation platform that enables seamless and realtime access to data across distributed and disparate data sources. With Attunity Federate in place, Peacocks could access data in either legacy RMS files or SQL Server tables, or both, and could quickly reconfigure where data comes from without impacting their reports and BI services. The result reduced the costs of supporting the migration project, enabled it to be accelerated, and most importantly – enabled consistent access to the information that business users need while data is being migrated.
An egovernment initiative sparked SGK’s need to deliver realtime data warehousing and selfservice business intelligence capabilities. These would improve decision support and enable senior managers, auditors and more than 2,000 business users to independently access information in realtime. Specific objectives would include enabling the delivery of timely and integrated information required for improving customer service, enhancing employee productivity and increasing business process efficiencies. To meet these objectives, SGK needed to make the most current, accurate information available at the user’s fingertips in mere seconds. In turn, SGK would be able to improve its responsiveness to the people and organizations of Turkey who depend on them to provide timely and efficient support and services.
RepliWeb Directory Synchronization (RDS) is a peer-to-peer file replication and file synchronization solution for enterprises operating in running cross platform server environments (Windows, UNIX, Linux, NAS). The use of RepliWeb templates makes this workflow more efficient. Each template includes pre-configured job properties; the simple addition of credentials and scheduling makes each new deployment quite easy. Upon implementing RepliWeb Deployment, HealthGrades realized immediate improvements in operations and performance. “One particular deployment that previously took almost half a day and required a dedicated QA person has been reduced down to an eight minute, unsupervised process with RepliWeb. In terms of time, most migration projects have been reduced by 90% and we have signifi cantly reduced the risks associated with missed data files”, commented Deanna. “Management has been extremely pleased with the overall cost saving and improvements in productivity”. R-1’s rollback functionality has also had a big impact on HealthGrades’ operations. In a matter of minutes, RepliWeb Deployment can restore the data state of servers to any point in time. RepliWeb’s reporting capabilities are also helping HealthGrades to meet Corporate and Federal requirements for the exchange of healthcare related data.
One of the main technical challenges that IACM faced prior to implementing the Attunity operational data replication (ODR) solution was finding an efficient way to handle their mixedlanguage environment including multicode Macau Chinese, Portuguese and English data (stored in legacy IBM® iSeries® systems) and migrating it into a common representation in an Oracle platform serving the data in realtime. Previously, IACM had to create a tailored program for each data table, with limited ability to handle updates. This highlyintensive workflow not only demanded extended use of hardware resources on a high percentage of redundant data transfers, but also used an unusually high amount of human resources to develop and manage the process. This also created significant overhead on the hardware, creating a truly costly scenario. As a result, replication requests needed on short notice were nearly impossible to fulfill.
• Tighter alignment with Toyota for marketing programs • Access to real-time, actionable data • Ability to access and integrate from multiple databases for complete view of business via Impromptu • Lower costs of capturing only data changes • Reduction of Mainframe utilization which translates to cost and time savings • Increased reliability • Ability to replicate data to multiple data consumers “Our requirements called for a solution capable of accessing numerous types of data sources in real-time and a method to aggregate, understand and analyze that information. We decided to standardize on Attunity’s integration platform to work in conjunction with Cognos 7 series. Using Attunity we have realized considerable ROI, especially with our DB2/MVS CDC solution, which has allowed us to significantly reduce our batch window and CPU resource consumption on the mainframe with a single solution. Furthermore, Cognos has given our associates the ability to access and analyze data over the Web, enabling them to better manage their business.”

The solution saves the joint venture money by eliminating the need for ongoing support of the older platform. However, that was never the key business driver. Xchanging expects to build a totally flexible workforce where skills are interchangeable - enabling the company to focus resources where and when they are most advantageous. “By making data entry more intuitive and user friendly, we can improve throughput, which will allow us to be flexible with how we use people. This will also increase our capacity for taking on potential new business without additional headcount,” projects Allan.
Pfizer selected Attunity Visibility to provide both BI and data warehouse business activity and data usage analytics to reduce costs, improve SLAs and ensure trusted usage of information. Attunity Visibility quickly delivered correlated, granular insight into user activity, application data and database information— all without any disruption of production warehouse systems. Now, Pfizer can capture and correlate usage analysis over time. This data is easily shared between all Pfizer BI and data warehouse constituents. As a result, Pfizer was able to gather important knowledge about their environment and quickly realize returns on their Attunity Visibility investment:
Achieving that additional 1% margin requires consistent, daily analysis of inventory—you need to move data continuously in order toknow which SKUs are moving well, which should be dropped; how suppliers are responding to inventory demands; how sales campaigns are performing against projections. Longer term analysis includes comparisons of different stores, year to year performance, and aginginventory data. With SM’s prior system for analytics, “we weren’t able to complete the processing of data—from transforming it, to loading it—we were supposed to have reports available by 9 am, but we just weren’t makingthat deadline. Reports were never done until past 11 am, sometimes past 12. And there were some reports that would never complete at all. This wasn’t acceptable.”
Senior Vice President of Information Technology Services
By deploying Attunity Visibility, Union Bank gained the ability to monitor and analyze all user, application, and data usage activity without system degradation. Prior to adopting Attunity Visibility, this detailed insight into business intelligence data warehouse systems was simply not available.
